Halim seeds are abundant in nutritional value. They’re laden with numerous nutrients like vitamin A, C, E, iron, calcium and all essential amino acids etc. Here, I am discussing benefits of Halim seeds.

If I say Halim seeds are one of the most underrated and overlooked food, it couldn’t be an exaggeration. These seeds are packed with nutrition even though many people are unaware of their significance. It is a forgotten food which Ayurveda also proposes to incorporate in your diet. They are the most functional food that encourages overall well-being and gives nutritional benefits. These seeds are used since ancient times to boost immunity and treat anemia. 

Health benefits of Halim seeds

  1. Helps in weight loss –  They’re useful in losing weight in a healthy way. Generally people go for chia seeds or flax seeds for weight lose, as these seeds gained popularity for their weight losing properties. I want to bring these humble seeds to your consideration, as they are rich in fiber and protein, that’s why they increase the feeling of satiety and safeguard you from overeating.
  2. Helpful in curing anemia – Halim seeds are rich in iron, which promotes the growth of red blood cells. Healthy growth of red blood cells improves hemoglobin levels. Generally it is advised to consume vitamin C also while having an iron rich diet, so that the iron absorbs properly in the body. Halim seeds are rich in both iron and vitamin C that makes them a great source for increasing hemoglobin levels. 
  3. Good for women – Halim seeds have health benefits for everyone but they’re exceptionally good for women. As they are an excellent postpartum food. They are good for lactating mothers, as these seeds enhance breast milk production. Halim seeds are rich in phytochemicals that regulate irregular periods. You can naturally regulate your hormones and normalize irregular menstrual cycles by adding them to your diet.
  4. Immunity booster – Halim seeds are laden with antioxidants, vitamin A, C, E,K and folic acid. They are a good source for boosting immunity and help your body to fight against various infections and diseases. 
  5. Boost hair growth – Halim seeds give the proper amount of boost to your hair growth, by preventing hair loss. It will be beneficial to include them in diet for young or middle aged men suffering from alopecia and male pattern baldness.
  6. Healthy skin – Halim seeds are not only rich in antioxidants and nutrients but they have antibacterial and antifungal properties also. They give your skin a healthy glow besides being prevented against acne and skin diseases.
  7. Improves digestive issues – These seeds are rich in fiber, this make them ideal for relieving from constipation, indigestion and related issues like bloating, gas etc.

Don’t overdo with Halim seeds 

Halim seeds have numerous beneficial nutrients, but you have to be cautious while consuming them. It is suggested to don’t exceed the intake more than one tablespoon 2 to 3 times in a week. Pregnant women should avoid or consult their doctor before consuming them. People suffering from hypothyroidism and goitre should also avoid having them, as halim seeds contain substances that can prevent the absorption of iodine from the food. Overdose of Halim seeds can lower your blood pressure and people who have potassium deficiency should also avoid having them as they flush out potassium from the body.

How to include Halim seeds in your diet

  • You can have Halim water before breakfast in the morning. Keep a glass of water with a spoon full of seeds at night, consume this Halim water with a spoon of lemon juice in the morning. It will keep you full and energetic for a long time.
  • You can dry roast them and sprinkle over your soups and salads. 
  • It is recommended to consume halim seeds with healthy fat sources. As fats ease down the assimilation of nutrients from halim seeds. You can prepare halim laddu with grated coconut and jaggery with a little bit of ghee and dry fruits of your choice.
  • At bedtime have a pinch of them with milk.
  • They can be added to your various drinks, like in your lemon water or herbal tea etc.
  • You can add small quantity of them in your kheer and halwa.

Here, I am sharing recipe of Halim seeds laddu

Ingredients

1 cup- Halim seeds
1 Coconut (grated)
2 ½ cup- Jaggery 
2 tsp- Ghee
Some dry fruits (of your choice) toasted in ghee
1 tsp Cardamom powder
Ingredient for Halim Laddu

Method to prepare

Step1Soak the Halim seeds properly in enough coconut water
Step2Heat a wok, add soaked seeds and grated coconut
Step3When the mixture turn golden add jagger
Step4Mix all the ingredients well
Step5(Optional) you can add more jaggery as per your taste and
Step6(Optional) if you feel the mixture is turning dry you can add milk or coconut water accordingly
Step7Cook it on low flame for around 20 mins
Step8In a pan add ghee, once heated add dry fruits and the mixture and cook until the mixture dries
Step9Once the mixture cools down, roll it down and make laddus.
Method to prepare Halim laddu

Store these ladoos in an airtight container and relish them as healthy snacks. During winters halim seeds ladoos will not only give you energy but will keep you warm as well.
