In the generation of social media, where we are besieged by the array of accomplishments and achievements of others. This display of their success or victory makes us compare ourselves to the others more faster and easier.
Stop comparing with others
- While scrolling facebook or Instagram do you compare your social life with other?
- Compare your travel adventures with your friends?
- Compare your career graph with your colleague?
As humans it is our inclination to compare ourselves to others.
A recent incident of famous Bollywood celebrity Shilpa shetty kundra’s Husband arrest, evoked these question in my mind. Does comparing our apartment size, our income, our looks etc… with such known people would accord any good to us?
It also reminds me famous saying by world’s renown poet Willam Shakespeare “All that glitters is not gold”, everything that looks percious, perfect or true is not necessarily turns out to be so. We get so much fascinated by the picture perfect lives of these celebrities, but such incidents make us realize the futility of our illusions.
Generally we all are quite aware with this fact that it is folly try to compare ourselves to others, as no good ever comes out of it. Even then knowingly or unknowingly we fall pray of comparison.
Spare a thought for a fact that you are born to be you and not perfect. As Albert Einstein once said “There is nothing known as Perfect”.
Don’t compare your life with others. There is no comparison between the Sun and the Moon. They shine when it’s their time.
5 ways to protect yourself from comparing with other
1. Come out of an imaginary illusion world of ‘Perfect’
There is nothing like perfect in this world. Everything has their own Pros and Cons. There will always be people whose lives seems as Perfect life to you, as you compare the worst of your’s to the best assumptions that you make about them. Practically their life is not as perfect as you think or assume it is.
2. Acknowledge who you are
The sooner you discover the beauty or uniqueness of it your inward traits, the swiftly you will stop comparing with others. There are always so many wonderful things with which you are bestowed. You may be an Artist, a Mother or a Business, a Cook anything. God imparted all of us with so many qualities to celebrate ourselves and stay entirely unique. Any comparison between you and another is never worth while its like comparing apples to oranges.
So be focused on developing your qualities and potential.
3. Practice gratitude
Keep reminding yourselves of the blessings which you got in life, and show your gratitude towards all the boons which you have. Notice good things in your life and appreciated them because gratitude turns what we have into enough. Gratitude can safe guard you from negativity, as when you are fully contented you hardly get fend off by comparisons.
“Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things”
Robert Brault
4. Try to bring relevance in life
Many people spent their lives way wardly without any thought or purpose. Make an effort to institute some purpose in life, so that you can deflect yourself from the comparison game. As you have already so much to do for your self.
- Try to nurture, accept your traits
- Try to make a better human by accepting your flaws instead of critizing
- Invest your precious times in this fast churn life on finding happiness in flaws and imperfection instead of comparsing and inviting negativity that not meant for you.
5. Praise other for their achievements
I once read comparison is the thief to happiness. Don’t feel like you’re losing just because someone else is winning.
Being praised makes the recipient feel good about themselves and also helps you develop good relationship with them.
Appreciation gives a feeling of accomplishment which money can’t by. So always praise people around you.
Lets accept the fact that, there could be always someone more efficient and competent then you, in this world. So it is totally unfruitful to compare yourself with others. Everyone is blessed with some or the other way.
A constructive and inspiring comparison is good for your overall growth and positive thinking. Nothing is perfect and engulfing too much in such things might have deleterious impact on you.
Following above 5 ways will surely help you to develop a positive outlook towards life. We all get only one life to live, so let’s live it to the fullest.
